Jo Richards, PhD
The Performance Collab. | Director
Following a rewarding thirty year career, with most of it spent leading teams in high performance sport environments, I knew I had the life experience and capability to form a sports consultancy, The Performance Collab, in 2023.
My values of family, connection and integrity, underpin my purpose, to enable others to do great things.
Enabling Others
Exceptional behaviours of individuals underpin a high-performing team.
With a ‘person-first’ approach, I have managed, motivated and mentored athletes and staff to achieve amazing outcomes, including multiple Olympic, Commonwealth Games and World Championship team members and champions. I find no greater enjoyment and reward than facilitating a team to achieve amazing results.
High Performing Teams
- Are full of individuals who are thriving. Mentorship from an experienced, trusted mentor helps individuals to be the best possible version of themselves,
- Will effectively collaborate, leveraging each other’s strengths, as they move toward a common goal,
- Habitually strategize, plan, execute and review to learn,
- Are process orientated, they can breakdown complex problems into meaningful tasks and measures of progress, &
- Can profile success and demonstrate the behaviours which deliver high-level outcomes aligned with an organisation’s strategy.
Facilitating teams to excel is important not only in the sporting sphere but in any environment or workplace which strives to optimise team performance, including recreation, leisure, community organisations and corporations.
My Story
Starting as a Western Australian club sports coach and aspiring leader in the early 1990s, I gained a PhD in Sports Science and began my professional journey.
I have experience leading teams and individuals in many different capacities.
- Team Coach at the Sydney Olympics,
- Leading a State Sporting Association,
- The inaugural Athlete Pathways Manager at a National Sporting Organisation &
- A Performance Team Director at a State Sports Institute.
These experiences have given me the capability to
-
- Share the behaviours which underpin high-performing teams,
- Understand and interpret system complexities and interdependencies,
- Communicate in ways which are clearly understood &
- Lead by example and positively contribute to contemporary cultures.
With this accumulation of knowledge and life experience, I feel well-equipped to share and guide others, both within and outside of sport, to become high performing.
